A Trained Final Response (TFR) is given by the search dog when a lost subject is found. The search dog is either trained to stay with subject and perform a TFR such as barking (“stay and bark”) or return to the handler and perform a TFR such as jumping, sitting, spinning, etc. When the dog returns to the handler to perform her TFR, it is called a “recall refind” since she must recall to the handler and then refind the subject. Often handlers will choose a TFR that is natural to the search dog and can be performed consistently. For example, a dog with a weak bark is not suited to be a “stay and bark” dog.
